Life can change in a moment

Life can change in a moment-that’s why I understand the power that I have to “choose my mood”.  Albeit the date of September 11,2001 is a universal day of hardship for our world, for my family it was our own (universal) hardship. My child was sick. Very sick. Out of the corner of my eye, in our hospital room. Additionally with the rest of the world, I stood watching as a plane flew into a building. And then another. I can’t pretend to know what all of you were feeling as the towers crumbled, lives were ripped apart and horror spread through our country — but I can tell you that my soul was being crushed like only a mothers can when her child is hurting. I was watching my 2 year old child fight for his every breath. He was quietly sleeping while doctors were preparing to do a liver biopsy – my world was about to change – and little did I know, so was all of yours.
That day became a blur for all of us, and for me even blurrier as the hospital shut down in fear of some type of retaliation and threat to Chicago as well.  Try and tell a mother there will be no surgery right now, and that there would be no more testing until the world got a sense of (control) again. We had to wait. We had to watch our sick little boy become sicker – and there was NOTHING anyone could do. As the days unraveled, and we had the surgery, we sat frozen in our own fear, and were strangers to the aftermath of the catastrophic events going on outside the walls of our hospital. Was this a dream, was someone playing a horrible joke, was ANY of this real?
As we received the news that my son had a life threatening liver abscess things became even more overwhelming, I remember sitting in the corner of our child’s room arguing with my husband who would (leave) this world first if anything happened to our boy. We were clearly in shock, and acting in fear, but there was a MOOD that we had gotten caught up in. At that moment, our pediatrician came in and heard a glimpse of the conversation and in that moment, my life forever changed. She took us by complete surprise and scolded us as if we were her own children. “You will not make this about you. You will not be burdened by whatever the outcome of this story is. You will get it together as the parents God made you and you will parent this child and deal with whatever the outcome. You will Choose your MOOD, you better make it a good one”. I can’t be exact if that was the way each word came out, but you get the picture. This was “my choice” in how I was going to deal with it. And from this day forward, my MOOD has been a conscious choice. Really, it has.
My brand Lifetherapy has been a very serious, yet playful approach to life. There will be a million circumstances in each of our days but we have to remember that we have a choice in how we react. I have always been passionate about retail; having owned a boutique and restaurant for over 20 years, I have grown up in a playground of products and beautiful things. Lifetherapy was a natural place for me to (work) in creating a brand of products, and it made all the sense in the world for my products to be designed around MOOD and how we can use our MOOD to create awareness of our choices. Fragrance and color were two vital components that I felt I needed to work in to convey the power of our minds. We are drawn to fragrance and we are drawn to color because they make us FEEL something.
Lifetherapy is a brand about positivity, a culmination of my life’s experiences. It is presented to you through mood boosting fragrances, vibrant colors in accessories and lifestyle products. The mission of the brand is for you to realize your mood is your choice and it’s within you to choose it. We humbly ask you to #ChooseYourMOOD.
